|
|
|
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot the error
Operating System not found or missing
Operating System.
- Remove all removable media and batteries.
- Remove any added hardware.
- Reset the computers BIOS to the default values.
NOTE:
Verify that the hard drive is detected in BIOS. If
the hard drive is not recognized in BIOS, the hard disk drive is the
cause of the error.
4. Perform a System Recovery
|
- Insert the first disc of the Recovery Media Kit into
the CD/DVD drive.
- Restart the computer.
- Remove any disc from the CD/DVD drive.
- Restart the computer.

Disc #1 screen, insert the first disc of the Recovery Media Kit.

The error This Recovery Disc is not
for this computer may occur if the BIOS has become corrupt or the
operating system has been altered. Follow this procedure to
troubleshoot the error.
- Confirm that the computer model printed on the
Recovery Disc label matches the computer.
IMPORTANT:
- If the computer model printed on the Recovery Disc
label does not match the computer, and the appropriate Recovery Disc is
not available, this solution cannot be completed.
- Each Recovery Disc is protected so that it will only
work on the models listed on the Disc label, and only with the
factory-installed version of the operating system.
- Insert the System Recovery Disc (SRCD) into the CD/DVD
drive.
- Restart the computer.
- If the SRCD does not display the error, the operating
system has been altered such that the Application Recovery Disc (ARCD)
will not function and the Sony Shared Library files will need to be
reinstalled.
IMPORTANT:
The Discs will not function properly if the computer has been upgraded to
a new operating system, a retail version of the same operating system
has been installed, or if operating system files have been deleted.
- If the error message does appear, the BIOS is either
missing a required character string or has become corrupted.
NOTE:
The error message will be displayed when attempting to start from the
SRCD. If the message does not appear, it is not necessary to continue
with a recovery.
- Check for any available updates from the Sony®
eSupport Web site at
http://esupport.sony.com.
- If the issue is still unresolved after completing all
of the troubleshooting steps, service will be required.

An Error Code occurs during a System
Recovery. |
|
|
Use the following table to diagnose an error code that occurs
during a system recovery.
NOTES:
- The error codes in the table below occur when using the
Recovery discs or F10 to perform the system recovery, not when
using the VAIO Recovery Center from the operating system.
- If the table indicates Recovery disc failure, the disc may
be dirty. Verify the
disc is
clean.
- If service is required and your computer is out of warranty, the
Sony® eService Web site at
http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service
from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.
If your computer is in warranty, contact the Customer Information
Service Center at 888-476-6972 to speak with a customer service
representative.
- Reset the BIOS defaults and try to perform a system recovery
again before determining the computer requires service.
IMPORTANT:
- If an Error 403 message is
displayed when attempting to perform a recovery on a new or
unpartitioned hard drive, restart the computer to the Recovery
disc. Once at the VAIO Recovery Center
window, choose Restore Complete
System , and then choose Skip
. The error will occur when choosing any option other
than Restore Complete System .
- For Error 320 or
330 , if possible, run the
RAM
hardware diagnostics to determine if the RAM has failed. If
the RAM passes the test, only the HDD requires service.
